When employers contact you
Employers might message you to:
- Ask about your referral's background
- Clarify information in their application
- Request additional context
- Thank you for the referral
Responding professionally
Do
- Respond promptly (within 24-48 hours)
- Be honest and factual
- Share relevant positive context
- Maintain confidentiality of sensitive info
Don't
- Exaggerate your referral's qualifications
- Share confidential information
- Guarantee outcomes
- Be pushy or salesy
What you can share
Appropriate to share:
- How you know the candidate
- Their relevant skills and experience
- Why you think they're a good fit
- Your professional relationship
Keep private:
- Personal details they didn't share
- Salary expectations (unless they said to share)
- Reasons they're leaving current job
- Anything told to you in confidence
Message etiquette
- Keep messages professional but friendly
- Be concise and to the point
- Check for typos before sending
- Use proper grammar
If you're unsure
It's okay to say:

Reporting issues
